Summer Book Club
The Reading Ranch Plano location will be holding a summer 2017 book club!
This summer we will be reading The City of Ember, a dystopian novel from author Jeanne DuPrau. Over the course of four weeks we will be holding a 90 minute reading and discussion session along with summary writing. This is meant to be a fun environment where kids can read and discuss an interesting story, while also continuing to build their vocabulary and literary skills over the summer months. The club will be held on Thursday’s: 7:30 – 9:00 PM.
This allows students to not only read the book, but plenty of time for discussion and story review. This summer reading is for independent, advantageous readers who can comprehend early literature. Each lesson will include roughly 2 chapters a week for students to take home and read as homework and students are expected to have read the weekly reading in order to fully participate in the lesson.
*Feel free to bring snacks, sodas, a blanket or a pillow—pizza will be provided!
Writing reflections will be implemented in an interactive writing lab setting based on the book club discussion theme. Writing assignments will be enhanced by guiding effective writing techniques that are organized while reviewing spelling, punctuation and grammar usage.
